Exhibition Title: A MODERN ADVENTURE - THE RENAULT ART COLLECTION
Exhibition Place:-1F Exhibition Space, Hubei Museum of Art
Exhibition Time:March 17 to June 19, 2016
“A Modern Adventure: The Renault Art Collection” is a significant exhibition produced through a cooperation between the Hubei Museum of Art and the French Renault Group. This exhibition is a perfect example of the wide and extensive projects that a Public Art Museum will undertake within its foreign exchange and cooperation programs. This major and very special exhibition will become the reference by showcasing a unique mode of institutional collection and an efficient narration against the background of regular elements in art history.
From 1967, over 300 artworks were created by 30 renowned artists among which Arman, Dubuffet, Robert Rauschenberg, and Victor Vasarely. These works and more recent ones now constitute the Contemporary and Modern Art Collection of Renault. It also undoubtedly represents an interwoven and interrelated historical dialogue between avant-garde art and European industrial groups and fits in the Renault group own history. Remarkably this historical dialogue has not ended, it has continued through the times till today with new and upcoming artists from all over the world.
From this perspective, we have to admire and acknowledge the great efforts and great openness that Renault – one of the largest industrial enterprises internationally - has displayed in this project. It goes beyond mere support and recognition for the artists, it actually built the foundation for creation and along the way it has constructed a vivid visual memory and multi-dimensional connection in art history.
In recent years, Hubei Museum of Art and French art institutions have cooperated on numerous occasions. Hosting “A Modern Adventure: the Renault Art Collection” is a milestone for this Museum; this exhibition will elevate the narrow concept of art collection to a wider meaning and support the position of a Public Art Museum to a much larger public and art world arena.
